Anaga – a jewel awaiting discovery

Saturday 09 July 2022

El Macizo de Anaga fue declarado Reserva de la Biosfera el 9 de junio de 2015

This corner of the north-eastern part of the island of Tenerife is a true natural jewel that still holds many secrets

The Anaga massif has a total surface area of 48,727.61 hectares, including land and sea. It covers the territory of 3 different municipalities: Tegueste, San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Within the reserve there are several protected areas of great importance for flora and fauna. The best known is the Anaga Rural Park, but there are also Ijuana, El Pijaral and the Roques de Anaga.

In this area we can see how traditional activities such as cattle breeding, fishing and agriculture are still maintained, but obviously the service sector has also been exploited, as it is one of the most important areas for hiking in Tenerife. Given such a large area, you can find areas that are completely natural and wild, which we you walk through with signposted paths or other areas that include the best of nature and gastronomy, such as Taganana.
